(Good News from Finland) Supercell, famous for its games Hay Day and Clash of Clans, has been chosen as the best startup company in the Nordic Countries in the Nordic Startup Awards competition.
— Finland has recently produced some really top-notch startups, and the region is quickly turning into a European Silicon Valley, says Supercell’s CEO Ilkka Paananen with great satisfaction.
This past autumn, Supercell’s hit games sat at the top of the list of iPad games generating the largest turnover in Apple’s App Store in the US. At the time, Paananen explained to Good News from Finland the reasons behind Finland’s success in the games industry.
Supercell has the support of at least one impressive backer, namely the global investment company Accel Partners. Accel Partners is known for its investments in Facebook, for example.
The Nordic Startup Awards, organised for the first time this year, annually reward the most promising startup companies in Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden.
The best startups from each country were chosen as finalists and the awards were presented in Copenhagen on 7 December. Finland’s finalists included Supercell, Transfluent, Blaast, IndoorAtlas, Kiosked and Nordic TeleCom.
