To enhance its R&D innovation capabilities within Europe, Samsung Electronics today officially opened its new R&D Center in Finland

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd, a global leader in technology, today announced the opening of its first Northern European R&D Center in Espoo, Finland.
The decision to build an R&D presence in Northern Europe reflects the importance that Samsung places on the European technology market and its well developed skills base.The company chose Espoo to be able to benefit from the excellent technology development eco-system in Finland. The new site is in close proximity to Espoo’s Otaniemi Science Park, the largest technology, innovation and business hub in Northern Europe.
This will allow the company to create collaborative partnerships with world-class research organizations, academic institutions and over 800 companies from start-ups to multinational corporations. Samsung Electronics will actively build relationships and co-develop cutting edge technologies with our Finnish partners.
Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics Mr Chang-Yeong Kim, Head of Digital Media & Communications R&D Center said “Samsung will strive to maintain a leading position in global technology innovation through continuous research activities. The goal of the Finland R&D Center will be to further fuel new innovations and we expect this R&D Center will play a key role in Samsung’s innovation within Europe”.
The Center in Finland will have a focus on development of open source software and advanced technologies in the domains of graphics, web & security for digital devices such as smart phones, tablets, Digital TV and PCs. Samsung plans to recruit at least 50 experts in these technical domains in the coming years, and to steadily grow the Center based upon future technology direction and expertise.
The increasing of investments in R&D activities is a part of the global strategies of the company. Samsung Electronics invested around $10 billion on research and development activities in 2012.
