One of GHP’s key operations in 2010 is marketing and promotional support of the Finnish Neurodegenerative Initiative. The goal of the Neuro project is to introduce the neuroscience related R&D opportunities in Greater Helsinki to international biopharma industry.
Neuro project uses the existing world-class Central Neurosystems (CNS) R&D capabilities in Finland to entice Helsinki-based R&D collaboration between Finnish players and international industrial players. The overall objective and purpose of the program is to deliver strategic investments into Greater Helsinki through building contractual collaboration between Greater Helsinki research & development community and international R&D intensive industry.
Structuring, marketing and supporting the formulation of contractual engagements between international companies and Greater Helsinki R&D community will increase the economic activity in Helsinki area, as well will increase the economic and strategic rationale for international companies to establish or increase their corporate presence in Greater Helsinki area.
From Japan to the USA
During the year 2009 one of the focus areas of the activities was Japan. The Asian giant is interesting and valuable partner primarily for two reasons. Firstly, the demographic structure of Japan today is very much the one all industrial countries face ahead. Aging population increases also neurodegenerative problems in the society. Secondly Japanese pharmaceutical companies have become major global players meanwhile having very limited presence in Finland. Greater Helsinki Promotion tries to help to fulfill that gap and make more collaborations happen with future aim seeing Japanese companies operating their R&D activities in Greater Helsinki are as well.
Year 2010 brings new focus on California and especially San Diego. Both scientists and corporate representatives have identified substantial potential in closer collaboration between Greater Helsinki and Southern Californian bioscience community. A fresh look at smaller biotech companies and venture capital have generated new collaboration opportunities for Greater Helsinki.
