(Good News from Finland) Patients will soon be able to get their voice back with the help of a new voice prosthesis. The results of a research project led by Professor Samuli Siltanen from the University of Helsinki enable more varied voice production with the use of artificial voice devices.
The new prosthesis can produce more age-appropriate voices and can also express affective states. A young girl who has lost her voice will, in future, be able to regain one that better corresponds to her age. The device currently available for children is a speech synthesizer that can only produce the voice of an adult male.
