Investors Include Spotify’s first investor Creandum and Supercell Seed Investors Jari Ovaskainen and London Venture Partners
Finnish game studio PlayRaven today announced the company’s $2.3M USD (1.7M €) seed investment round, which was completed on January 17th, 2014. The company is now backed by venture capital fund Creandum (investors in digital media companies such as Spotify, Wrapp, and Nonstop Games), investor Jari Ovaskainen and venture capital fund London Venture Partners as well as private investors.
PlayRaven CEO Lasse Seppänen comments: “The number of tablets and smartphones now exceeds the total number of television sets on the planet. We believe this massive audience can no longer be served with a ”one size fits all” approach. New mobile gaming audiences with diverse tastes are out there, waiting to be served. This seed funding enables us to expand our team and build a portfolio of unique high-quality strategy games aimed at new mobile audiences worldwide.”
David Gardner from London Venture Partners comments: “With thousands of new games published each day, the PlayRaven team is focused on innovation and breakthrough concepts, which will delight people in new ways. I don’t think the same game formulas of the past will work and that’s why we’ve invested in this team with new ideas and high standards.”
PlayRaven was founded in 2013 by five game industry veterans with extensive AAA console, mobile and free-to-play experience from studios such as Remedy Entertainment, Wooga and Digital Chocolate. The studio aims to disrupt the current mobile games market offering with completely new kinds of themes, art styles and game mechanics in the strategy games genre. PlayRaven’s first title, Spymaster, is planned for global release in Spring 2014. Their new second team will start the development of another title during Q1 2014.
PlayRaven is currently recruiting new talent to join the growing team.
