On Tuesday, 26 February 2013, BlindSquare, an augmented reality app for the blind, developed by MIPsoft, based in Helsinki, Finland, received a Global Mobile Award as the Best Mobile Health Product or Service at the 18th Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona. The judges recognized BlindSquare as a “truly assistive solution that combines consumer mobile technologies to address a societal problem.” More than 600 entries competed in 37 categories and were appraised by panels consisting of 160 international independent judges including leading journalists, analysts, academics, and independent experts.
