Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA) is an American game giant that develops, markets, publishes and distributes numerous video games. Being more and more into digital goods, this third largest gaming company in the world recently invested in Finland: the new EA Maxis label mobile studio operates in Helsinki since September 3rd last year.
When deciding where to create new studios around the world, EA looks at a variety of factors. For example, access to great talent and creative teams is an important element in decision-making.
– Finland already has a history of developing fantastic mobile games, and Finnish game development professionals are very talented. No wonder this experience has been very positive so far and our co-operation more than pleasant, praises EA’s General Manager & Executive Producer Marko Lastikka.
According to Lastikka, Greater Helsinki area offers an attractive environment with the combination of talented game developers, good technology infrastructure and a strong educational system. Recent success cases in Finnish gaming industry have also created awareness around the world. All this promotes Helsinki as an alluring as well as safe investment destination for growing foreign companies and start-up businesses.
– Having a great educational system creates a solid foundation for strong careers in multiple areas. This also applies to games business, states Lastikka.
Highly international Maxis Helsinki already employs approximately 20 people from multiple nationalities, including local Finnish hires. The first months have been positive, and the Helsinki team has been focused on creating mobile game titles as a part of the global Maxis Label team.
– We are happy with our decision to invest here. By being focused on creating great games for mobile and other platforms, we all are contributing to the global Maxis Label team. And as we build our operations here, we also look forward to becoming an integral part of, and contributing to, the local Finnish business community, Lastikka concludes.
